Insurance policy for a D visa

Most foreigners need a D visa to enter Ukraine in order to subsequently obtain a temporary residence permit. One of the mandatory conditions for obtaining it at a Ukrainian consulate is a medical insurance policy.

Requirements for a D visa policy:

  • minimum coverage: EUR 30,000;
  • valid on the territory of Ukraine;
  • emergency medical care and repatriation included;
  • validity period: 90 days or another period sufficient for submitting documents at the consulate;
  • acceptable form: paper, or electronic with a digital signature or QR code.

Citizens of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Moldova and Belarus do not need a D visa for some procedures: they may enter Ukraine visa-free and submit documents for a temporary residence permit directly in Ukraine. Before ordering a policy, it is still worth checking the legal ground for the application and the period of lawful stay.

Medical insurance policy for a temporary residence permit

A medical insurance policy is a mandatory document when applying for a temporary residence permit in Ukraine. The policy is submitted to the migration service together with the other documents.

Requirements for a TRP policy:

  • minimum coverage: 40,000 UAH;
  • validity period: at least 1 year from the date of submission of documents;
  • if the permit is issued on the basis of a work permit: the policy must cover the entire validity period of the work permit, usually 1 or 2 years;
  • form: on the insurance company's letterhead with signature and seal; in some cases an electronic document is sufficient, but certain migration service offices may require the original;
  • coverage must include emergency medical care, inpatient and outpatient treatment, medicines, and repatriation.

For a residence permit it is often better to take out a 13-month policy. In practice, some migration service offices require the policy to remain valid for at least 1 month longer than the permit itself.

How to order a policy

  1. Go to the order form and fill in the required fields.
  2. Within 1-2 hours during business hours (Mon-Fri 10:00-18:00) a draft policy is sent to your email for checking.
  3. Check the name, passport details, policy validity period, citizenship and other data.
  4. If everything is correct, proceed to payment via the link sent to you by messenger or email.
  5. Payment is accepted by bank card on the insurance company's website. At the same time, you confirm your consent to conclude the contract via an SMS code.
  6. After payment, the digitally signed policy is automatically sent to your email.
  7. For a D visa it is usually enough to print the electronic policy. For the migration service, we send the original by Nova Poshta if needed.

When it is better to order a policy through a law firm

  • when the policy is needed for submitting documents to a consulate or the migration service;
  • when you need to verify which policy is suitable for a D visa or a temporary residence permit;
  • when a particular migration service office may require the original policy with signature and seal;
  • when the policy is needed urgently, on the same day or right before submitting documents;
  • when the client is abroad and cannot obtain the document in Ukraine independently.

Policies are issued as an additional service for clients of our immigration practice. The main practical value of this service is the correct form of the document for a D visa or for submission to the migration service.

Frequently asked questions

Can I order a policy online, without calling?
Yes. Orders are accepted online through the form on this page - no phone call or office visit is needed. You fill in the form, receive a draft policy by email for checking, pay by card, and the signed policy arrives at your email. This is the fastest way to order.

What minimum coverage is required for a temporary residence permit?
For a temporary residence permit, coverage of 40,000 UAH is required. For a D visa at the consulate, coverage of EUR 30,000 is required. These are different policies with different requirements for coverage and document form.

Does the migration service accept an electronic policy?
In practice, requirements vary. For some applications a policy with a digital signature or QR code is sufficient, but sometimes the migration service asks for the original with signature and seal. When you place an order, we clarify the purpose and, if needed, send the original by Nova Poshta.

For what period is a policy needed for a temporary residence permit?
At least 1 year from the date of submission of documents. In practice it is often better to take a 13-month policy, because some migration service offices require the policy to be valid one month longer than the permit. If the permit is based on a work permit, the policy must cover the entire validity period of the work permit.

Do I need to renew the policy when extending my residence permit?
Yes. When submitting documents to extend a temporary residence permit, you need a new policy or confirmation that the current policy has been extended for the next period.

Can a policy be issued for a foreigner who is not yet in Ukraine?
Yes. The policy can be issued remotely. For a D visa, the policy is issued before entering Ukraine and submitted together with the documents at the consulate. For a residence permit, the policy is issued before submitting documents to the migration service.

What data is needed to issue a policy?
Usually the foreigner's passport details, date of birth, citizenship, policy validity period, an email address to receive the document, and a phone number or messenger for contact. If the policy is needed for the migration service, it is also advisable to state the ground on which the permit is being obtained.

Can I pay for the policy from abroad?
Yes. Payment is made by bank card on the insurance company's website. If technical difficulties arise with the payment, we will separately suggest a possible course of action.

What if there is an error in the name or passport details in the policy?
Before payment, we send a draft policy for checking. If an error is found before payment, the data is corrected before the contract is concluded. If the error is noticed later, the possibility of amending or reissuing the policy has to be checked separately.

Will this policy be accepted at any migration service office?
The policy is prepared taking into account the usual requirements of the migration service for TRP insurance. If your application requires a paper form, we prepare the original.

How long does it take?
During business hours, issuing usually takes 1-2 hours after we receive the data and you check the draft policy. If you need the document urgently, please say so right away when ordering.

Is there a policy for persons over 60?
Yes. Separate rates apply to persons aged 61 and older: 1 year - UAH 2,000, 13 months - UAH 2,300, 2 years - UAH 4,000. If the policy is needed for a permit based on marriage to a Ukrainian citizen, we usually recommend a 13-month term.

the fault has been fixed
Good afternoon. Please could you tell me about insurance required for a D-14 visa application for a German citizen (my common-law husband) and insurance for applying for a one-year temporary residence permit? Which company provides this insurance (as they require a licence to sell policies in Ukraine)? Is it possible to purchase such a policy?
Good afternoon. Yes, this type of insurance can be arranged. For your husband, as a German citizen, there may be two separate insurance policies:
1. A medical insurance policy for applying for a Ukrainian D-14 visa at the Ukrainian consulate, with coverage of 30,000 EUR.
2. A medical insurance policy for applying for a temporary residence permit in Ukraine, with coverage of 40,000 UAH, usually for 1 year or 13 months.
The policy is issued through a Ukrainian insurance company authorised to provide this type of insurance in Ukraine. Before payment, we send a draft policy for review, so you can check the name of the insurance company, the insured person’s details, the validity period, the coverage amount and the main terms. To issue the policy, we need your husband’s passport details, date of birth, citizenship, the required insurance period and an email address for receiving the document. If the policy is needed specifically for a D-14 visa and then for a temporary residence permit based on marriage to a Ukrainian citizen, please mention this when placing the order.
You can order the policy through the form on this page. If needed, after issuing the electronic policy, we can also arrange delivery of the paper original by Nova Poshta within Ukraine.
I ordered a policy for a residence permit here. I didn't write a review until I tried to submit my documents to the migration service in the city of Dnipro. I submitted documents to extend my residence permit. They accepted them without any problems.
There was a problem after all. You gave us the wrong address and the migration service did not accept the documents, but the insurance representatives in Dnipro quickly corrected it and everything worked out on the second attempt. Our policies are accepted without any problems in the city of Dnipro.
I bought insurance for a work visa from these guys. It's convenient that you can buy it online. I got my visa in New York. Everything was great.
Our insurance policies can be ordered online and submitted to any Ukrainian embassy or consulate. They are suitable for both work visas and all other visa categories.
